At this point, they are more annoying than oppressive, but they still set the tone for the overall gameplay. Mages started out with a 56+% win rate in this new metagame, a figure that’s been steadily dropping since a meaningful early change in draft odds adjustments. Return to Naxxramas (25.4.1) Arena Class Tier List The One to Beat – Mage (53.5%) If you can’t beat them, join them, as the saying goes. Be sure to modify your strategy accordingly. Notably, Knight-Captain and Mothership were very quickly adjusted down by the devs, which means you’re deprived of some of the premium tempo tools you could use to punish the greedy Discover-heavy decks. If they don’t, you get seven 2/2 Rush creatures without having to expend a card. Imagine playing it on turn six and floating two mana: if your opponent gets rid of it, you’ve played a neutral Savannah Highmane. Lost Exarch: Don’t trust the win rate on this card, it is a premium pickup that people don’t yet fully know how to play. No matter how fragile it is, it’s still a very good card in its category. Umbral Geist: A bit like Sneaky Delinquent, this is a two-drop that replaces itself while also bringing Undead synergies to exploit. Vyrkul Necrolyte: It’s easy to see why this card is very good, what’s perhaps a bit harder to see is that it’s well worth picking up even if you don’t have a fast enough curve, courtesy of the Deathrattle token’s Rush. Infected Peasant: The long-lost cousin of Haunted Creeper with similarly strong early-game properties and neat Undead synergies. Right now, greeding it out for the bonus effects is almost always the better play. Silvermoon Armorer and Silvermoon Sentinel: These two Manathirst cards were the strongest neutral minions added in the March of the Lich king set from an Arena perspective, and they can still play a part in the Standard rotation. The best way to deal with them is to play one yourself. Pelican Diver is the weakest of the three but is still a superior version of Worgen Infiltrator: the other two are broken removal tools, with Gangplank Diver guaranteeing at least a two-for-one. The Diver minions ( Gangplank Diver, Slimescale Diver and Pelican Diver): Practically speaking, “Dormant for 1 turn” coupled with Rush is just a better version of summoning sickness, rendering the minions invulnerable until they gain initiative. It’s useless to try to play around anything specific: stocking up on power and value is your best bet. Make no mistake: even though they were also very important in the previous rotation, the significantly higher power level of the sets in play makes these Discover effects much more powerful. Nerubian Vizier, Venomous Scorpid, Sketchy Stranger and Pandaren Importer: These cards warp the metagame around them right now. Spell discovery effects are dominating this metagame, and you should only try for a tempo-heavy strategy if you have a well-constructed deck and a synergistic class for it. Mages are the leaders of the pack, even if their win rates are continuing to drop after a quick set of changes to the drafting odds. Notable Neutral Arena Cards in the Return to Naxxramas (25.4.1) Metagame While it doesn’t matter for the casual player, for the most competitive this incentivizes creating brand new accounts (and stopping playing after a 30-run hot streak) for optimal results, which is unfortunate. There is also an official Arena leaderboard now on the Hearthstone website, though the system has its limitations: it features a modified 30-run average where your older runs still impact your score, but with a decaying rank. March of the Lich King (including Return to Naxxramas). This means that many of the picks are straightforward as the power level difference between something like a Flamestrike and a Murloc Tinyfin is pretty easy to grasp.Ĭards from the following sets can be drafted in the Arena right now: Here’s what you need to know about the current format of the Arena: the old system of “buckets”, cards of roughly similar power levels offered against one another are gone, which means the drafting is once again based around card rarities. Arena in February 2023: Rules and Strategies Discovering high-value cards and repeatedly swinging the board back and forth is the name of the game, and though there are pockets of tempo plays that you can explore and exploit, stocking up on stupidly impactful cards (and drafting Mage as often as you can) is what will get you the furthest. This gave us new winners and new losers in terms of class balancing, and a very different playstyle from what was ideal before. The latest Arena rotation brought along a collection of Standard-legal cards, and with it, a monstrous increase in power level.
