Recover images - FileSalvage can analyze and recover files from most third party tool disk images such as standard ISO, EnCase® (when converted to dd image), UNIX dd, Drive Genius™, SubRosaSoft Cop圜atX™, and SubRosaSoft MacForensicsLab™. Using the underlying architecture of Mac OS X, FileSalvage can read and display audio, video, image, text, pdf, and other files. Preview - Allows the user to preview a range of available files before choosing to recover them. This produces huge speed efficiency and means that the task of recovering files can be accomplished much quicker. Searches for deleted files only - On HFS+ volumes, the user can limit FileSalvage to scan only the free space of a volume to recover files from. By employing these methods, FileSalvage is able to recover data from sources that may have appeared to other software to be too physically broken to use. In addition to several tried and tested methods, SubRosaSoft has implemented additional improvements to read the same piece of information and to automatically skip of areas of the file system that are fully unreadable. In fact it will happily process an entire corrupted file system for intact data and recover whole or partial files wherever it finds them.įileSalvage works on faulty hardware - FileSalvage can also recover data from mechanically unsound devices. Recovers files from corrupt media - Data corruption does not stop FileSalvage from working. Most operating systems only perform a "quick format" by default and so unless the user consciously performed a secure initialization the chances of recovery are high. FileSalvage will not be able to recover data that has been securely erased from a device or media, a process that involves overwriting the drive's data several times. Recovers files after a disk or device has been formatted - Own an initialized disk or other device with files that you want back? No problem! So long as the drive was not securely initialized, FileSalvage should be able to recover the files from the drive. This means that the user can recover files from a hard drive, digital camera, USB key, PC disk, FLASH card, scratched CD, and most storage media that work with the Mac. Works anywhere - FileSalvage is device and file system independent. Written specifically for Mac OS X, FileSalvage includes powerful features that give the user greater control and flexibility in analyzing and retrieving lost data: With its advanced features and performance, the easy-to-use interface was designed with every level of OS X user in mind and is highly accessible to all, with the potential completion of the whole recovery process within just a few clicks. This means that defence attorneys, law enforcement and corporate agencies can now access Unix DD, Apple DMG, and Cop圜atX image file systems without purchasing expensive computer forensics software. For the most current list of salvageable file types, please visit our web site at: įileSalvage also supports the ability to process disk images. In addition, FileSalvage is constantly being enhanced and updated with an increasing number of file types to salvage. It will recover both computer files and RAW camera files, as it works on digital camera memory cards. FileSalvage is designed to recover files not repair them.įileSalvage can currently recover over 100 file types, embedded and stand-alone (see Recovery File Types List). Having said this, due to the way in which data is distributed across file systems when being copied, there is often a decent chance that recently deleted files have not yet been overwritten, though there are no guarantees. Available ONLY by Download!įileSalvage is device and file system independent, which means that the user can recover files from a normal Mac OS hard drive, USB key, PC disk, Linux disk, FAT32 disk, FLASH card, Digital Camera, iPod (non-iOS based), and almost any other media or file system that can be recognized in Mac OS X.įileSalvage cannot recover deleted files that have been overwritten by new data. Updated to support OS X Yosemite (supports Mac OS X 10.7 and higher). Use FileSalvage to recover your lost files, music libraries, iPhoto collections, and to rescue data that has been lost.

While the characters and humor aren’t on par with later games in the series, the game’s writing presents an admirable first effort. The jokes probably won’t elicit more than a chuckle from most players, but they do a good job keep the mood light and imbue a sense of personality into world and characters. The best part of the Shantae’s writing is its dialog and personality, something that later games in the series would run with. In some ways, I actually prefer this lower-tech, more mysterious take on Sequin Land. This version of Shantae’s world feels ever so slightly off compared later games, like in the eight years between this game and Risky’s Revenge, the folks at WayForward changed their minds on a lot of the setting’s details. The plot plays out exactly as one would expect a MacGuffin hunt adventure story to, with no significant surprises. From there, Shantae sets out to stop Risky from obtaining four elemental artifacts with which she can turn the steam engine into a weapon of unmatched power.ĭespite the intro sequence’s engrossing world building, the story itself is pretty straightforward. After her scuffle with Risky Boots, Mimic warns Shantae of the steam engine’s destructive potential. As the town’s designated guardian, Shantae repels the pirates, but not before they abscond with a steam engine built by Shantae’s uncle and resident archaeologist, Mimic. The story begins with Risky Boots and her crew invading Scuttletown. In Shantae, players control the eponymous character as she attempts to thwart the schemes of the notorious lady-pirate, Risky Boots. Now the half-genie’s original outing makes its way to Nintendo Switch, thanks to Limited Run Games. Shantae was originally released for the GameBoy Color on June 2, 2002, almost an entire year after the GameBoy Advance’s North American debut. Such is the story of WayForward’s Shantae for the GameBoy Color. As a result, the twilight years of a game system are a perfect breeding ground for cult classics. Unfortunately, these efforts are often overlooked by the general public, who are too anxious to get their hands on the next generation of hardware and games. By then, developers are intimately familiar with the platform’s capabilities and know exactly what it takes to push it to its limits. The end of a system’s lifespan is often an interesting time. The early sun illuminates thousands of spider webs in the grass, turned to golden thread weaving a tapestry of life in the understory. The feel reminds me of saddle leather in a way the natural and utilitarian feel of something once-living. I let my hands pass over the smooth bark of the dead trees. Shortly after, I see a mule deer munching flowers on the steep slope above me.Īlong the rocky scree, deep silky phacelia is a highlight. I smile to see a wild animal despite all the people in the trail, thinking of how many will walk right by. I sit to have a snack at the base of the bowl, and spot a bighorn ewe on a point far above the trail. If more folks saw these forests perhaps they would ask how we humans are culpable. Climbing through stand after stand of skeletal sentinels that once provided food and shelter for grizzlies and Clark’s nutcrackers, I think humans might really have it coming.īlister rust, fire suppression, pine beetle, climate change a perfect storm of natural and human driven forces that have culminated in so many thousands of acres of these trees decimated. The bright yellow helianthella is cheerful against their smooth gray bark yin and yang, life and death juxtaposed. I walk through the ghosts of whitebark pines, both familiar and eerie at the same time. I pass happy patches of helianthella, bright pink Indian paintbrush, and stately bluebells along the sweet creek, all which seem to say “you can do it!” Whoof the trail is steep! I know this from hiking it at least a dozen times, but it always seems a surprise in the beginning. Everyone seems super happy to be here, friendly on the trail, and thankfully no-one is playing music while hiking….so I’m not too bothered by the crowds. It turns out that there are quite a few folks hiking today. Since I am hiking alone and this is definitely bear country, I take two bear sprays and make sure to keep pace between a couple of groups. While my usual preference is to walk in my own very small group far from others, today I am glad to find several hikers hitting the trail. Near Lake Butte I encounter a juvenile eagle, sitting and pruning and generally being eagle-ish, much to the chagrin of the local birds and squirrels all along the hillside behind, who are all alarming and chattering. I stop at a flowery meadow I love by the lake, but there’s already somebody there – of the 2000 pound variety – so I move on for now. But not too early, since I will be looking to hike in the vicinity of others for bear safety. I figure an early start will be a good idea, because I believe it’s going to get pretty hot today. I’m on my way to hike Avalanche Peak today any bears, flowers, or beautiful light on the way notwithstanding. I pass a woman taking an early morning walk through the campground, and she smiles and waves. Driving through the sleepy campground, a few folks have fires going, surrounded by kids with thick blankets wrapped around their shoulders huddled near the warmth. I love being out early in the morning there’s an energy that is gentle, yet full of possibility, still poised before the action of the day. It’s chilly 37 degrees at 7:45am.Īlthough I didn’t get up as early as I would like, it’s still feels early. The Absaroka mountains seem no more than hulking shadows in the gloaming. It’s a clear blue morning, with mist and fog lingering over the Lake. The smell of the trees and the grass and the water meld into a cloud of sensation. I am filled with the senses of the moment: wind whistling in the lodgepole pines across the river, the bright green of the still-moist grass along the bank, the sharp, cold water numbing my feet above the ankles. I need a visceral connection, so I pull off my sandals and stand in a sandy spot in a small eddy.Īnd almost instantly, the rest of the world melts away. So I check out of the road system completely, and stop over at a favorite spot along the Yellowstone River where there are shallows that I can dip my feet into. It took me 6 hours, and after getting the camper parked and camp all set up, I am more than ready for the serenity of Yellowstone.īut…I forget that even though visitation might be slightly down because of the recent floods, it is still July in Yellowstone, and I can’t slowly meander along the roadways quite the same way I want without being rude or having people people running up my tail. While visitation is definitely down, by the time I get to Lake the road scene is still fairly busy, and I must admit I’m quite tired from driving all the way around to Bridge Bay Campground in Yellowstone from the North Entrance. I don't usually front-country camp at Yellowstone Lake in July, but since my June dates were canceled on account of the flood that washed out the north entrance road, I decided July would do just fine-else I might not get into the park's interior at all this summer! Throughout the years, the song has sold over a million copies in the United States alone and stands as the fifth most played Billy Joel song on Spotify. The song was part of Billy Joel’s iconic album ‘The Stranger’ from 1977. “Vienna” was released on the Side-B of “Just the Way You Are” single on November 29, 1977. No matter what you do, be good at it, and whenever you get there, you get there.” Well, wait a minute, why do I have this whole lifespan? What’s the point of it? Some people will get there sooner, and some people will get there later. We tend to put older people away, and it’s all about young people. The lyrics, ‘slow down you crazy child’ – in other words, you have a whole life. A lot of people in their 20s think they have to get it all together by their 30s and they kill themselves trying to get the golden ring. “It was an observation that you have your whole life to live. In an interview with the Howard Stern Show, Billy Joel further explained the meaning behind the song lyrics In a lot of these older places in the world, they value their older people and their older people feel they can still be a part of the community and I thought ‘This is a terrific idea – that old people are useful -and that means I don’t have to worry so much about getting old because I can still have a use in this world in my old age. We put them in rest homes, we kinda kick them under the rug and make believe they don’t exist. We treat old people in this country pretty badly. I say to my father “What’s this nice old lady doing sweeping the street?” He says “She’s got a job, she feels useful, she’s happy, she’s making the street clean, she’s not put out to pasture”. She must have been about 90 years old and she is sweeping the street. So I go to visit my father in Vienna, I’m walking around this town and I see this old lady. It was a place where cultures co-mingled. You get great beer in Vienna but you also get brandy from Armenia. It’s a place of inter…course, of exchange – it’s the place where cultures co-mingle. So the metaphor of Vienna has the meaning of a crossroad. During the Cold War, between the Eastern Bloc, the Warsaw Pact nations and the NATO countries was the city of Vienna… Vienna was always the crossroads – between the Ottoman Empire and the Holy Roman Empire. He lives in Vienna, Austria which I thought was rather bizarre because he left Germany in the first place because of this guy named Hitler and he ends up going to the same place that Hitler hung out all those years! Vienna, for a long time was the crossroads. I didn’t see him from the time I was 8 ‘till I was about 23-24 years old. Why did I pick Vienna to use as a metaphor for the rest of your life? My father lives in Vienna now. Billy explained the story to New York Times in 2008 Hi father, Helmut Joel, explains that elderly people, too, still can provide something of value to society, as opposed to making them feel like useless people, as does America’s culture. Billy feels bad for her and expresses the sentiment to his father. One afternoon while they were sipping some coffee at a shop by the street, Billy Joel sees an elderly woman sweeping the street. As a teenager of 23, Billy traveled to Vienna to reconnect with his father. The song was inspired by Billy Joel’s father, who left for Vienna, Austria when Billy was eight years old. The Real Story Behind “Vienna” by Billy Joel God forbid, if you don’t reach your dreams, you would have missed the journey, too. Life moves on in the blink of an eye and you might be missing ‘life’ itself while chasing your dreams. “Vienna” is about enjoying the ride before the destination. As the stamps have no postal value many postal administrations have reduced the size of their archives and many have found their way to collectors and dealers. Many Portuguese Colonial offices cancelled them with “ultramar” handstamps, Spanish offices with “muestra” overprints and French and British offices used “Specimen” handstamps in various colours and some were perforated. In some cases individual countries would receive un-overprinted stamps of member countries and affix them to reference pages. Many early issues are now to be found in Philatelic Museums. In effect every UPU Member would possess a complete portfolio of all the stamps issued by other Members. Once received, sets are then distributed within the country to the relevant postal administrations. The Bureau then assembles sets for circulation, retaining its own copies, with sheets broken down and separated to single or strips of stamps according to the individual requirements of UPU Members. See website for more information. The collections were originally prepared by the individual postal administrations, though in more modern times they are sent directly to the Bureau by the printers.
